Into the Lee
Dennis Lee
interviewed by George Murray
(Audio)
In
April, while Ninja Murray was touring his new book,
he had a chance to meet with Dennis Lee in Ninja K's Toronto-based
dining room and chat about his new book Yesno,
a continuation of his daring previous book Un.
George asks Dennis about reasoning behind this shift toward
what many would consider a more formally experimental voice.
Lee talks about struggling to find a voice to deal with the
times and the growing political and environmental catastrophes
that sometimes seem to defy articulation in the language of
the everyday. Famous for his books of children's verse, including
Alligator Pie, Garbage Delight and Jelly Belly,
Lee is not only one of Canada's most treasured poets, critics,
and cultural philanthropists, but was also Toronto's first ever
Poet Laureate.
